Open to all singers from fourth grade through senior in high school, Young Voyces aims to give young musicians the opportunity to learn and perform fine music in the close-knit atmosphere of a vocal ensemble. Chorus members learn musicianship and performance skills, in addition to building confidence and friendships in this exciting new group.
Young Voyces performs concerts with internationally recognized musicians throughout Staten Island and the surrounding area. Past seasons have included performances in Carmen, Carmina Burana, excerpts of King Arthur by Purcell, and the premiere of a new oratorio, Masada by H. Bialor. The busy youth ensemble has performed with The Staten Island Philharmonic, on the Trinity Wall Street Visiting Choir Series, the Music at St. Alban’s concert series, at the Bernikow Jewish Community Center, and with the Wagner College Choir. Each December is highlighted by a concert of Lessons and Carols at St. Paul’s Memorial Church together with their parent ensemble Voyces. The 2015-2016 season will conclude with Voyces and Young Voyces presenting Henry Purcell’s beloved Baroque English opera, Dido and Aeneas, with an orchestra of early music specialists.
Young Voyces is the youth chorus affiliate of the Staten Island-based early music ensemble, Voyces.
