Bulgarian Children’s Chorus and School Gergana (pronounced [ɡɛrˈɡanɐ]) is the oldest Bulgarian children’s chorus and Bulgarian Sunday school in New York City. The chorus was founded in 2004 by jazz singer-songwriter Gergana Velinova with the help of Met Opera soloist, soprano Stefka Evstatieva, and the assistance of pianist prof. Pavlina Dokovska and the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York. The school was founded in early 2005 by educator Neli Hadjiyska. The children’s chorus has performed in 83 concerts at venues including the Bulgarian Consulate General and the Bulgarian Orthodox Cathedral in New York, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, UN headquarters, NY Public Library, UBS headquarters, Pace University, at the Global Fund for Children Gala at Rubin Museum of Art, and in a concert for the Bulgarian community in Chicago. The school also offers preschool, K-12 Bulgarian language, history and geography classes, drama studio, dance studio, rhythmic gymnastics, visual art, and yoga for children, and mixed chorus, fashion workshop, yoga and Bulgarian for beginner adults for parents.
