Scarsdale, New York, lies between the Bronx and Hutchinson Rivers in the hills of south-central Westchester County, 24 miles north of New York City.
We are a large, K-12 district and have 5 elementary schools all of which took part in the New World Initiative. As a district, we seek to sponsor each student’s full development, enabling our youth to be effective and independent contributors in a democratic society and an interdependent world. To this end, students are asked to think and express themselves clearly, critically and creatively; to understand themselves and others within the broad fabric of human experience and the natural universe; to appreciate their rights and responsibilities as citizens; and to become people of integrity, maturity and generous spirit. In Scarsdale, one measure of success is the degree to which they fulfill their potential for the common good, non sibi — not for themselves alone. Scarsdale boasts a strong, music department for all grade levels, including, orchestra, band, chorus, general music, music history, jazz history, improvisation, multiple levels of music theory, technology and more.
Scarsdale has been named Among America’s Best Communities for Music Education by NAMM for eight years in a row, every year of application.
It was a pleasure and honor for the District to be involved and included in this wonderful educational experience presented by the New York Philharmonic.
