The Grammy-nominated Total Praise Choir is the largest auxiliary of the 400-person, multi-generational, multi-genre Sacred Arts Ministry of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
While Total Praise’s music ministry primarily serves that thriving, outreach-oriented Brooklyn, New York congregation, some Total Praise choristers also have performed on stage, television, radio and in the studio in such far-flung places as South Africa, Denmark, the Caribbean and Australia; during the NFL Super Bowl; and on recordings of such gospel and secular music greats as Karen Clark Sheard, Aretha Franklin, Kenny Garrett, Patti LaBelle, Donnie McClurkin, Jason Nelson, Jonathan Nelson, BeBe Winans and CeCe Winans.
In 2007, at Brooklyn’s iconic Prospect Park, the 100-voice Total Praise formed the chorus for the world premiere of REwind, South African composer Philip Miller’s multimedia cantata about his homeland’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the ravages of apartheid.
In 2009, Billboard magazine spotlighted Total Praise’s Grammy-nominated, Total Praise Live project of sacred music infused with jazz, rock, old school gospel, newer urban sounds, slave field hollers and more. Another Total Praise CD, Just Praise, featured such renowned artists as multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and record producer Gordon Chambers; singer-songwriter and worship leader Melonie Daniels-Walker; and Siyaya, an internationally touring troupe of young gospel singers from the townships of South Africa.
