ALBA CONSORT performs Early Mediterranean Music from the Medieval to Baroque on period instruments. Bridging the ancient to the present with songs, compelling dances and virtuosic improvisations, ALBA Consort traces cross cultural influences through ancient music. ALBA has performed at distinguished concert series such as “University of Chicago Presents”; UC’s Oriental Institute; NYC’s Barge Music; the Jerome L. Greene Space (podcast on WQXR radio); Early Music Now, Milwaukee; Academy of Early Music, Michigan; showcased for Chamber Music America; Hofstra University; and on CUNY.TV Classic Artist Showcase. With Margo Gezairlain Grib, voice & vielle; Carlo Valte, oud; Christopher Morrongiello, lute & guitar; and Rex Benincasa, voice & percussion, ALBA illuminates melodies, poetry, dynamic rhythms and improvisation traditions throughout the Mediterranean – Spain, North Africa, France, Cyprus, Italy, Armenia. . . “ALBA” means white, the white light of dawn, and an ALBA is a morning song of troubadours – often of lovers as dawn approaches.
